Dental offices are the main source of mercury discharges into the POTWs with approximately 5.1 tons released annually. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a final rule regarding the handling, recycling, and disposal of amalgam. This CE webinar will review the compliance, documentation, safe treatment options with recycling and inspections.

Additionally, safe practices for the reduction of backflow to mitigate the risk of patient cross-contamination with use of saliva ejectors will be discussed.

Upon completion of this CE webinar, the dental professional should be able to:
• Discuss the purpose and general requirement of EPA’s Dental Rule (40 CFR Part 441)
• Identify best management practices related to amalgam separators and mercury recycling
• Apply best options to reduce the risk of cross-contamination due to backflow of low-volume saliva ejectors.   ( disclaimer , ADA CERP Statement )
